Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University is a clinical and teaching department integrating medicine, teaching and research in obstetrics and gynecology. The department has 81 beds. In the past five years, the number of average annual outpatient visits has passed 100,000, with 6,000 patients admitted. The number of average annual emergency visits has reached 5000, with more than 5000 surgeries. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is a designated hospital for the high-risk maternal rescue, for consultation of pregnancy with craniocerebral disease. The department has a doctoral program in obstetrics and gynecology at Capital Medical University and is a professional base for standardized training of obstetrics and gynecology residents in Beijing.It was awarded as the qualification of Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Training Base and National Pharmacology Base by the Ministry of Health. It is a four level endoscopic base for gynecology along the the Belt and Road.

The department has 36 doctors, including 14 PhD or MD, 21 master’s degree. There are seven chief physicians, ten chief physicians, 12 attending physicians, and 7 resident physicians; including two professors, five associate professors.There are one doctoral supervisor, and 4 master's supervisors. We have strong clinical diagnosis, treatment, teaching, and research capabilities, and have made significant progress in the past decade.

Gynecology department has three professional groups: general gynecology, gynecological oncology, and reproductive surgery. Admission of common benign gynecological diseases (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, endometrial hyperplasia, uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, ovarian tumor, endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction), malignant tumor (staging surgery for endometrial cancer, debulking surgery for ovarian cancer, radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer, chemotherapy for malignant tumors, and preservation of fertility function for early malignant tumors). Minimally invasive surgery has become a prominent feature of gynecology, accounting for over 90% of ward surgeries. In the past 20 years, doctors completed more than 50,000 cases of hysteroscopies and laparoscopes, the complication rate is less than 1%. Hysteroscopic surgery has reached advanced domestic and international levels, such as hysteromediastinoplasty, removal of uterine fibroids lager than 5 cm, lysis of severe uterine adhesions, which have enabled many infertile women to successfully conceive after surgery. The unique "one hole method gasless laparoscopic surgery" , the "vaginal sealing surgery" for elderly patients with uterine prolapse, and the diagnosis and treatment of vaginoscopy for asexual patients have brought minimally invasive surgery into a more miniature and non-invasive realm.

Minimally invasive surgery owns the advantages of minimal damage, faster recovery, fewer complications, and shorter hospital stay. At present, outpatient hysteroscopy and day surgery have been carried out, allowing patients to receive "see and treat" modality without hospitalization.

Gynecological endocrinology is not only related to women's health and fertility, but also to their quality of life. Therefore, managing gynecological endocrinology well plays a crucial role throughout patients’ entire life. Tiantan Hospital has established a gynecological endocrinology professional group to diagnose and treat various diseases, including menstrual related diseases, polycystic ovary syndrome, abnormal uterine bleeding, hyperprolactinemia, infertility, perimenopausal related diseases, recurrent miscarriage. A multidisciplinary management team has been established in collaboration with neurosurgery, psychology, cardiology, nutrition, and health management  and pharmacy, providing comprehensive health management for patients.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally，recently, the incidence rate of cervical disease has increased with rising incidence trend of younger age. Standard Comprehensive cervical cancer control includes primary prevention (vaccination against HPV), secondary prevention (screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions), tertiary prevention (diagnosis and treatment of invasive cervical cancer) and palliative care. Department of Tiantan Hospital has always been committed to the standardized diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of cervical lesions, and strives to improve the knowledge and health awareness of cervical diseases among female friends.

The obstetrics department of Tiantan Hospital is the consultation Center for pregnancy with craniocerebral disease in Beijing.; municipal high-risk maternal rescue center. The hospital has a fast track for emergent pregnancy and rescue. There have been no maternal deaths for more than ten years, receiving awards from the Municipal Health Commission. We successfully treated maternal critically ill, including amniotic fluid embolism, pregnancy complicated with severe pancreatitis, and pregnancy complicated with craniocerebral diseases under the cooperation of neurosurgery, neurology, anesthesiology, ICU, and internal medicine. The medical level of obstetrics is among the top in the city.

The obstetrics department of Tiantan Hospital has implemented 24-hour "painless delivery", to ensure the safety of the mother and fetus, without affecting the regular contraction of the uterus, and blocking the transmission of pain nerves during delivery. “Painless delivery "is medically known as “labor analgesia”. Anesthesiologists insert a catheter in the epidural space, and anesthetic drugs are pumped into the mother's body by a pain relief pump connected to one end of the catheter. The concentration and dosage of anesthetic drugs are low, and the amount of medication that enters the fetus through the placenta is very small. Not only will it not affect the baby, but it can also reduce the pain during childbirth and improve the natural delivery rate.

With the improvement of medical technique, as well as the enhancement of service awareness among medical staff, the patient visits has significantly increased in recent years.After entering new hospitals, the number of visits has increased by 50%. Gynecology department receives domestic and foreign patients. Obstetrics department receives critically ill patients around the city; The Reproductive Endocrinology group receives patients from Northern region of China and even from the whole country, thus forming a stable patient population.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is a specialized obstetric nurse base of the Chinese Nursing Association. It has Wang Na midwifery consultation and nursing studio of the Beijing Medical Management Center. In 2023, the evaluation of the gynecology specialized nurse base of the Chinese Nursing Association has been completed.

The nursing team consists of 52 nurses, including one with a master degree and 41 with a bachelor's degree. The department focuses on talent cultivation. In recent years, it has trained 6 specialized nurses from the Chinese Nursing Association and 4 specialized nurses from the Beijing Nursing Association, covering various fields such as midwifery, obstetrics, pelvic floor rehabilitation, intravenous therapy, oncology, and nursing management. There is also one senior lactation consultant, two senior PAC consultants, and one junior consultant. The nursing team adheres to the service concept of "patient-centered" and provides patients with a warm and comfortable treatment and rehabilitation environment through comprehensive scientific and systematic holistic nursing work. The rate of high-quality nursing is 100%, and the satisfaction with nursing services is increasing year by year. Individualized care for gynecologic oncology, endocrine and minimally invasive gynecology patients to get through the perioperative period. Obstetrics has carried out 24-hour delivery analgesia technology and completed various critical maternal care work together with medical work, especially the treatment and management of patients with pregnancy complicated with craniocerebral diseases, which has been praised by the Beijing Medical Management Center. The teaching tasks of obstetrics and gynecology nursing are diverse, with nearly 30 newly hired and trained nurses rotating every year. More than 120 undergraduate and specialized interns are taught, and they are responsible for teaching obstetrics and gynecology nursing, comprehensive practical training, and symptom nursing for trained nurses.

Beijing Tiantan Hospital officially became the teaching hospital of Beijing Second Medical College (now Capital Medical University) in 1978, and was renamed as the Fifth Clinical School of Capital Medical University in 2000. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Teaching and Research Department has been responsible for teaching to undergraduate and specialized students at Capital Medical University since 1980. At present, we are responsible for teaching obstetrics and gynecology in the undergraduate education of Capital Medical University, including the long-term clinical medicine program, clinical pharmacy program, and clinical laboratory program. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Teaching and Research Office also undertakes various skill operation training tasks for undergraduate and graduate students. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Tiantan Hospital became a Master's program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Capital Medical University in 2000, and has trained over 80 master's students in the past 20 years. In 2011, Obstetrics and Gynecology became a standardized training base for resident physicians in Beijing, and the pass rate of the first stage of training resident physicians has been 100%. Obstetrics and Gynecology receives over 30 continuing education trainees from all over the country annually. A number of faculty members have given lectures on obstetrics and gynecology at various universities, regions, and media outlets in China.

By organizing and participating in academic conferences and training courses on a regular basis every year, the hospital actively carries out academic exchanges at home and abroad, expanding its influence. By 2023, it has held the 16th Tiantan Gynecology Minimally Invasive Technology Forum and 17th Gynecological Endoscopy Simulation Training Course, a national-level continuing medical education program. Thousands of obstetricians and gynecologists have been trained in the capacity of minimally invasive technology of laparoscopy. The national continuing medical education program "Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment Progress of Cranial Stroke in Pregnancy Forum" is held every year, which is highly praised by many colleagues in the field. It also conducts district-level continuing medical education programs, including gynecologic oncology and gynecologic endocrinology. Inviting a number of internationally renowned experts to come in has also made more domestic and foreign counterparts as well as patients know about us, and at the same time, we have carried out domestic and foreign technical cooperation and related clinical research.
