The department has a number of sub-professional groups such as cataract, glaucoma, fundus, keratopathy, strabismus, orbital diseases and ocular tumors, providing high-quality diagnosis and treatment services with the advantage of neuro-ophthalmology. The department takes it as its responsibility to provide patients with multi-level and high-level medical needs, and provides the majority of people with expert outpatient, specialist outpatient, general outpatient, special outpatient and international outpatient services, with an annual outpatient volume of more than 40,000 people. The department of Ophthalmology has performed a variety of routine and difficult ophthalmic operations, including cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, minimally invasive optic nerve sheath decompression surgery, anti-glaucoma surgery, orbital fracture repair and orbital tumor surgery, cranioorbital communication tumor resection and other difficult ophthalmic operations. Through multidisciplinary cooperation, we have pioneered a variety of MDT diagnosis and treatment modes including ultra-selective arterial thrombolysis for retinal artery occlusion, treatment of intracranial venous sinus thrombosis and venous sinus stenosis combined with papilledema, plasma exchange for optic neuromyelitis and complex cranioorbital communication diseases, peripheral nerve transplantation for neurotrophic keratitis, and decompression of optic canal fractures.

Tiantan Hospital undertakes the clinical and teaching work of ophthalmology for undergraduate, master, doctoral, post-doctoral students and the International College of Capital Medicineof Capital Medical University. All the colleagues in the ophthalmology department attach great importance to talent training and echelon construction, take patients as the center, and actively promote medical technology innovation.
