Overview

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Beijing Tiantan hospital was established in 1960, with continuous development of the hospital, the department has been growing gradually. Zhai Fengkui, Miao Fengyuan, Zhang Huiming, Liu Pi’nan, Xia Yin and other specialists of the old generation have made great contributions to the construction and development of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology with their persistent and selfless dedication. The scale of outpatient clinics and wards has been expanding, and the number of diseases and cases has been increasing year by year. In October 2018, Beijing Tiantan Hospital moved to the new hospital area. Department of Otorhinolaryngology was further expanded and renamed as Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. Professor Guo Rui joined the department as a subject leader in August 2023, which marked a new period of development and brought new opportunities for the development of department.

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of Beijing Tiantan Hospital is a specialized department integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and health education. The department has a professional diagnosis and treatment team, advanced examination and treatment equipment, warm and comfortable diagnosis and treatment environment, and considerate medical services. The department consists of four subdisciplines: otology, rhinology, pharyngology and head and neck surgery. The department has 37 beds. The annual outpatient volume is more than 90,000 times, the annual discharge volume is more than 1,700 times, and the annual operation volume is more than 1,500 times. There are 33 staff members in the department, including 17 doctors, 2 technicians and 14nurses. There are 14 doctoral degree holders in the team, 2 chief physicians and 5 deputy chief physicians.

Combined with the characteristics of the hospital and the expertise of the departmental staff, three subspecialty groups have been established: Otology Group, Rhinology Group, and Pharyngeal Head and Neck Group. In addition to common and frequent diseases of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery, the department actively carries out minimally invasive surgical treatment of head and neck tumors, function-preserving surgery for laryngeal cancer, radical laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer, various kinds of laryngectomies, and laryngeal phonation reconstruction surgery. Relying on the neurological advantages of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, we have carried out multidisciplinary collaboration with the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Neurological Diseases, and actively carried out comprehensive treatment of skull base tumors, focusing on the function preservation of facial and auditory nerve while removing tumors, so as to improve the quality of life of patients.
