Department of Endocrinology

The Department of Endocrinology of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, undertakes various clinical, teaching, and scientific research work of a tertiary-level general hospital. At present, it is a department with the standing committee member of Chinese Endocrinologist Association, vice chairman of the Endocrinology Branch of Beijing Medical Association, vice chairman of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of Capital Medical University, standing committee member of the Diabetes Branch of Chinese Research Hospital Association, vice present of Beijing Perioperative Medicine Study Society. Besides, it is a national clinical medicine research institute (Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases), a specialist training base for internal medicine residents in Beijing, and a health education base for diabetes specialist nurses in Beijing. This team is composed of 16 endocrinologists and 16 nurses, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 3 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 4 attending physicians and 6 resident physicians, and more than 80% of the physicians have a doctoral or master's degree. The ward of the Endorinology Department contains 34 beds. In addition to the patients with regular endocrine and metabolic diseases (such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, etc), usually recognised as the the main diseases, patients with neuroendocrine disabilities are treated all year round, which gradually developing into disciplinary advantages. With the accumulating experience from large number of patients, 90% from other city of China, with sellar region lesions, such as pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas, germinomas, adrenal gland diseases and other classical neuroendocrinology diseases, accompanying with hypothalamic-pituitary-target gland disabilities, we have established a multidisciplinary collaborative neuroendocrine diagnosis and treatment system, and the Department of Endocrinology works as the main body. This system has not only improved the neuroendocrine clinical diagnosis and treatment pathway of hypothalamic-pituitary-target gland diseases, but also helped to carry out some relevant scientific research projects. With the foundation of the discipline construction of the endocrine and metabolic diseases, neuroendocrinology's clinical and scientific research characteristics are developed differently.

The Department of Endocrinology of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, is a postgraduate training site (enrolling doctoral/master's students majoring in  endocrinology and metabolic diseases) and undertakes teaching work of endocrinology and metabolic diseases of the long-term (5+3) graduate and five-year undergraduate programs of clinical medicine and dentistry of the Fifth Clinical Medical School of Capital Medical University, and has applied for and obtained many national and provincial research projects. Based on the solid foundation of Capital Medical University and the advantages of neuroscience disciplines of Beijing Titan Hospital, the Department of Endocrinology has enjoyed great repuation in the domestic field of endocrinology, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic neurological complications and sellar region diseases, such as pituitary adenomas. craniopharyngiomas and germinomas etc.
